Lecture: Professor Wood

Professor Wood will be lecturing at today's meeting (5 PM in Howey s203). Swing by for a great talk and free food!

Site updates

I have just fixed a bug in the site backend which caused the “All Posts” feed to not update properly. Updates should resume shortly. Sorry for any inconvenience.
Also, the site now scales to include more posts on each page without ever requiring an extra scroll bar.
As usual, if you find anything wrong, or just want to leave a comment, contact me.

Meeting times change

Because of scheduling conflicts with almost every regular attendee we have voted to change our meeting times from Wednesdays to Thursdays at 5:00 PM (17:00). The location will remain the same (SPS Room, Howey s203)

More information about meetings can be found here.

Welcome back

Welcome back Georgia Tech! We hope you had a wonderful break and will join us for our first meeting of the semester today at 5:00 PM (17:00 EST). Will there be food? You'll just have to come and find out! (No really, come and find out... we're not sure either.)

Railgun

After brainstorming project ideas we have decided that our project this semester will be to construct a railgun. We will begin by numerically approximating the properties of our rails and capacitor bank then designing and possibly building a small model.
Before begging the construction of the final product we will need to take the machine shop’s safety course. A group course will be organized in the near future. If you have any ideas, want to help out, or have any questions about the project let us know!

Be sure to follow @GTSPS on Twitter for project updates!

Project Ideas

As I mentioned previously we are currently in the process of brainstorming ideas for a project. Hopefully we’ll be able to secure some departmental funding and do something interesting, dangerous, educational, or any combination of the three!
A few of the ideas we came up with at the last meeting were:
If you have any other ideas for an interesting physics demo or something that you’d like to see us build or research, send them our way.

Brainstorming Session

This Wednesday the GTSPS will be meeting to brainstorm project and meeting ideas to fill the rest of the semester. Have something you’ve always wanted to build/see/do? Show up and let us know!

Lecture: Trebino

On Monday, November 2nd at 1600 EDT (4:00 pm) Professor Trebino, the SPS faculty advisor, will be giving a lecture to the club. Swing by to hear an excellent talk and get free pizza and drinks!
